Ocean Challenger

Structural Welding Robot

The Ocean Challenger, designed and built for Ocean by AGT, is an automated robotic welding cell for structural steel. A fitter tacks angles, stiffeners, gussets, fin plates and end plates onto a beam or column and loads it; the Fanuc Arc Mate 120i robot laser-scans each attachment to verify position, then welds it with a Lincoln Electric Power Wave R450 source. It handles wide-flange, channel, angle, HSS and tapered sections from 6" to 40" deep and 4 to 50 ft long, producing single, double and three-pass fillet and lap welds up to 1/2" in the 2F position. AGT's Cortex software imports the 3D model from Tekla or SDS/2 and auto-generates scan and weld paths, with no manual robot programming. A laser safety scanner meets ANSI/RIA R15.06 and CSA Z434.
